Devin Bull's Surfing Lines

Devin Bull on Anticipating the New Swell

She shows up on the radar one week away
Been tracking her progress every day

Got a nice fetch and from the right direction
The weatherman has made only minor correction

The night before I prepare my equipment
Prepped my new board from the last shipment

I hit the sack and close my eyes
Dreaming of waves without any guys

I wake up early in sweet anticipation
And drive to the beach in mellow elation

Ahhh, there she is with beautiful lines
Me and her are going to have some good times

Poem by Devin Bull

Changing seasons

Why did you desert me and leave me alone?
Now lost and landlocked and stuck at home

Was I not always attentive when you were around?
Your every curve on the shore I lovingly found

But the season changed and you disappeared
I knew it was coming but it's worse than I feared

Now I am looking for you like a long lost friend
The waves of winter are gone and it is the end

It seems the party was over when only just begun
Now I am longing for you to have more fun

Tell your friend the wind to blow again in this direction
When he does I'll bring my board and we can be reunited in loving affection

Until then

Devin Bull's hidden behind the bushes perfect left

Hidden behind the bushes you will discover =

It’s a perfect curl and like no = other

An empty six foot left hand wave

A hidden secret we will save

Getting Home by Devin Bull

I was out the other day and the surf was nice
Just a couple of shark biscuits out on the inside
Just a solo surf that couldn't be purchased for any price
Long clean waves for me alone to ride

Then I paddled over to a new place
This crazy left hand shallow sand bar point break
And the wave was totally from outer space
Perfect waves for me to take

The best wave I've seen where I live
A hidden gem that is unknown
Unlimited stoke it will give
A hollow difficult wave inspiring this poem

Then I had to get on a plane and go away
To take a trip to another city center
Leaving the hidden break to be surfed another day
I'm thinking about that wave, I sure do miss her

It's one of the most perfect waves I've seen
So now I'm longing to return home
(to surf that wave)

Devin Bull's Bald headed Surfer's Union

So we’re starting a bald-headed surfer’s union.  To qualify for all of our exciting benefits entrants need to

-          have experienced natural hair loss to more than 50% of their nut

-          not give a shit about hair loss (anyone with hair plugs is ineligible)

-          have renounced the use of stinky hair products (can’t stand those guys who you paddle past that smell like they just came from a hair salon)

-          be crazy about surfing

Devin Bull Middle Aged Surfer

Middle-aged surfer by Devin Bull

I’m getting a sore ass from sitting at my desk

My kids running around being pests

Stuff em in the car and drive away

Get out of the office and escape for the day

Take the highway and head down to the beach

Paddle out into the waves where no cell phone will reach

Waves are unreal and almost never anyone out

Some happiness inside wants to run down the beach and shout

As the swell pumps so does my stress-free stoke

I guess I’m a pretty lucky middle-aged bloke

Devin Bull late-afternoon session

Devin Bull headed out for a late-afternoon surfing session.  The point was firing on a new (slightly lumpy) swell.  Well overhead on the sets.

Devin Bull surf exploration

Devin Bull found a new spot the other day, doubt it has been surfed much, if ever, before

The fisherman told us not to go out because there’s too many rocks

We went out anyway and it cranked!  (Do surfers really listen to fisherman? -- only about sharks maybe)

Head high long peeling lefts over a shallow sand/reef bottom

We surfed until the sunset as you can see from the beautiful colors in the picture

The waves don't break too often, but when they do they aren't forgotten.

That’s me dicking around, no one else out, no one around

Around here the waves don’t break too often, but when they do they aren’t forgotten.

Surf wax

A new day dawning, a surfer’s morning

Bowing his head in gratitude, hitting the water with attitude

Ducking through in green shacks, toes gripped to the surf wax
